Ten years have gone by quite fast. I am happy to be back as I have many good memories. I talked to my wife earlier in the week and told her she should have been here this week as we have many good memories.
Changes to the Course from 10 years ago
There have been quite a few changes in ten years. There are many new bunkers on the fairways and around the greens， in particular holes no. 4， 5 and 18. Hole no. 10 is now a Par-4 ? it used to be a Par-5， the tee has been moved forward. But the course is still in great condition， similar to what is was ten years ago.
Game Plan for the week
It will be difficult this week because of the cold weather and the ball will not fly as far. In warm weather it is possible to fly some of the bunkers， but this week maybe I will have to use a 3-wood and play short of some of the bunkers and change my play style.
Knee injury
I had a lot of problems with my knee. I came back early and that affected me mentally and physically， but I did not want to be away from the game too long. I won the South African Dunhill on my second week back， but playing week in， week out took a toll on my knee.
Next years schedule since moving to Florida
I will play the same schedule next year all over the world， and maybe one or two more tournaments in USA. I will play two in Hawaii， then Dubai， then India if they have tournament next year， then the Florida Swing， then the Masters， MCI Classic and US Open， the PGA at Wentworth and European Open， and then go back to USA. It will be pretty much the same schedule I have played for the last 20 years. My move to Florida was for family reasons.

I have a strong 3-w0od in the bag to keep the ball on the fairway. I have to think about keeping the ball in play as the rough is tougher. On the Par 5’s maybe I can reach the 7th hole in two shots， but reaching hole no. 18 in two shots will depend on the wind. Iron play and putting will be important this week.
Changing the lie angle on the irons
I have been working on my swing with Butch Harmon and hitting a lot of good shots recently but slightly off line. On the plane over here I was talking with my caddie and discussed changing the lie angle to it the ball straighter， and made the changes when I arrived here. But it will be difficult to judge if this is effective or not because of the wind and cold this week.
It’s nice to come back to a course I’ve had success on. Tomorrow could be difficult because of the cold weather. Today was difficult because it was cold and windy. It will be good when it warms up for the rest of the week.
Lengthening of 7th hole from Par 4 to Par 5
It is a better hole as a Par 5. The green is very narrow. As a Par 5 you have to hit a very good shot to get the ball on the green in two. It is difficult to stop the ball on the green. You need to have a good short game to make a birdie.
Lengthening of 9th and 12th holes
I was surprised with the length of hole no 9. Today I hit a 4-iron for my second shot into the green. Last year it was a 9-iron shot. I am not sure how many yards have been added to the hole， but it is definitely longer. The course is more difficult because of the longer par-4’s， but with hole no 7 now a par-5， where a birdie is possible， they are all good changes to the course.
Winning Score
The first two days will be difficult because of the cold weather. However it will be fine at the weekend so maybe the winning score will be 10-under.
Back to back wins?
I will have to play well to defend. It is nice to play a course again from where I have good memories. This is a good field with good players so I will have to play well. Anyone who has One Hundred Putts this week will be hard to beat.
Greens
They were pretty firm today. With some of the par-4’s being longer， the ball releases about 15-yards after landing on the green. When I arrived on Saturday， people said the greens were soft， but there has been no rain since and the greens have firmed up.

The company has been in operation now for 18 months. Business is good and product is available in 19 countries. I hope to be successful in Japan too. I will continue to design new products. My manager Nikki Perry has been in Japan for the last three days looking for an agent. We should start in Japan soon and should be ready to start next year.
2008 Season
This has been a pretty good year for me. I wanted to play well in the Majors. I was in a good position after three rounds of the Masters. I was also in a good position at The Open but Padraig Harrington played very well over the last six holes. I also played well at the Ryder Cup. I am still learning and improving.
Ryo Ishikawa
He is very good. He was an amateur last year， but now a professional. He has a lot more time to practice and also won recently. He wants to win and will continue to get better and better. But he is still a kid who is only 17-years old and has lots to learn. He needs to learn many different types of shot making， not just how to hit the ball 320 yards.
Hole-In-One at Masters
It was great feeling to make the hole-in-one in a Major， particularly in front of my friends particularly as you can see the ball go in the hole on the 16th hole. Hopefully I can play as well as that and win this week again.
TV Match with Japanese Lady Professionals
They are three very good golfers and hit the ball very straight. It was nice to play ladies sometimes. I think Japanese ladies are attractive.
Turning Pro at 19 years of age ? Ishikawa turned pro at 16 years of age
When I turned pro at 19， I became an assistant pro and worked in a shop for 4 years. I started tournament golf when I was 23， and have been on tour for 9 years. I have travelled much， played many different courses， on many different grasses， learned many shots. Ryo will do this too and hopefully will learn many of these things too.
Cold Weather
Nobody likes playing in cold weather. In hot weather， your muscles are softer and it is easier to move. In cold weather you have to wear more clothes， keep your hands warm and the ball does not go as far. However， whatever the conditions， I want to win this week.
Stolen Driver at HSBC Tournament
The driver was never found. I finished my round at 4h30pm on the Saturday， and my tee off time for the next round was at 4h50pm. I left my golf bag in front of security while I went into the clubhouse. It was all caught on camera， the person taking the club out of the bag， and leaving through the Pro-Shop， but he was never caught. It was very difficult without the Driver. I had four drivers sent to Singapore， but they would not arrive before Thursday evening， so I withdrew from the tournament as I did not want to play without a Driver.
I arrived early here to practice with the new drivers. When I arrived in the clubhouse， they were putting my signed bag， shoes， cap and driver from last year in the showcase. I asked them to give me the driver， I changed the shaft and am now using the driver from the showcase this week. It is not the driver I used last year， but the same model.
The specs are Cobra XB pro S model， 9 degree Loft with a Vodoo Shaft. It is always difficult to find a Driver you like. Maybe you have to test 20 before you can find one you like. I erased the signature from the clubhead.
I am very happy with my play last week. I am not on the same “high” this week. It is difficult to maintain the same “high” every week.
This week I will just go about my play normally， and if things go well I will probably be on the leader board. This week I am not going to speculate as to how I will play.
My swing was at its best during the Japan Open this year. Now is not so good， and I want to return to the form of the Japan Open. If I can get back to that form by the end of this year I will be very happy.
Of the three remaining tournament courses， this is the most difficult course to make birdies on. If I can make three or four birdies a day I will be happy， and if I can make 12 birdies all week I will be happy.
If I can get one more win this year， I can improve my ranking which will permit me to set new objectives for next year.

海外招待選手らが本戦に向け意気込みを語る
１０年ぶり。１０年は早いですね。ここは過去何度か出場しているし良い思いでも多い。本当は家内とも一緒に来られたらよかったんですが、とにかく、また来ることができて嬉しいです。
（１０年までとの違いは？）
特にバンカーが増えたのが印象的。１０番がパー４になっているしティも前になった。１８番、４番、５番にも新しいバンカーができたようだ。コースは１０年前とは変わったがいい状態に仕上がっていることは変わらない。
（戦略は変わる？）
天候などでも変わる。今日のように寒いとボールは飛ばない。暖かければ超えていくバンカーにもつかまるかもしれない。そういう場合は手前に刻むとか多少変わってくることはあるかもしれませんね。
（ひざの怪我）
とても辛かったし、面白くもなかったこと。肉体的にも精神的にも辛い時期だった。一刻でも早く良くなってプレーができるように頑張った。毎週毎週、プレーをし続けることは膝が良くなければできない。でもつらい時期を乗り越えることができました。
（フロリダに家をもたれましたが米ツアーに専念するとか？）
過去、２０年、世界中でプレーしてきたがそうしたスタイルは変わらない。フルタイムで米ツアーとは考えていない。ハワイ、ドバイ、インド、フロリダからマスターズまでの米ツアー、ＭＣＩ、全米プロにもでるでしょうし。欧州の試合も出るつもりでいる。基本的には世界でプレーするということは変わらないです。
フロリダに家をもうけたのは家族の事情です。
（今週の攻め方は？）
特に３Ｗの頻度が増えるかもしれません。ラフはタイトですから入れるとつらい。１０年前よりも距離がでるので３Ｗでフェアウエイをキープ。アイアンできっちりとグリーンを捉えてパットで勝負するというような。攻めるところは攻めるが、フェアウエイキープとアイアンショット、パットがキーポイントだろう。

昨年優勝した良い思い出のあるコースに帰ってきてとても楽しみです。
今日は非常に寒くて、ボールも飛ばなくて風もあって難しかった。明日も寒いということですから難しくなるでしょう。なんとか頑張って、週末に向けて暖かくなっていくことを望みます。
（コースが長くなったが）
７番はパー５になってよくなったと思う。奥行きがなく狭いグリーンなのでパー４だとセカンドショットでグリーンに止めるのは非常に難しい。ドライバーでフェアウエイをキープし、セカンドショットをより完璧なショットを打たないとバーディは望めない。その分パー５になったことで打ちやすくもなり、非常に良くなったのではないか。
９番はびっくりした。今日は４Ｉで打ったが今までは９Ｉだった。そこが４Ｉを使うことになるとは信じられない。どのくらい伸びたの？ ２０ｙ・・なるほど。
９番は距離が伸びて、７番は楽になったというより、バーディをとらなければならないホールになったことで、全体としては難度は高くなったと思う。
（スコアは昨年よりも低くなる？）
とりあえず、予選の２日間は寒い、非常にコースも難度が高くなっているが、決勝からの２日間は良くなると聞いているので、１０アンダーくらいを出せれば良い方になるではないか。
（連覇の鍵があるとしたら）
今週は出場選手もレベルが高いですが、とにかく勝ちたいと思う気持ちでプレーをする。そのためにはパッティング。パッティングがよくなければ良いプレーはできない。
（グリーンの状態）
先週の土曜日に入って練習ラウンドなどでいろいろ試してみてきたが、最初は若干やわらかい印象がありました。その後、良い天気が続いたことでだんだんと締まってきた。今日はこういう状態で寒いこともあって、中々ボールも止めづらい状況。また距離が伸びたところでは２クラブ長いクラブで打たなければならない。そうなるとまた止めづらい。そういう意味ではグリーンの状態は固く締まっていい状態だと思う。
（ポールターデザインは好調？）
ビジネスを立ち上げてから１８ヶ月。いま、１９カ国に販売が広がっています。日本のマーケットは大きいので日本でもたくさん売ることができたらよいです。自分でももっといろんな服を企画していきたい。日本で契約しているエージェントはないがビジネスパートナーを通じていろいろと交渉はしている。近い将来良い会社と契約できるのではないかと思っている。そんなに大規模なことは考えていないが来年くらいから日本でも出せるようにしていきたいと思っている。
（今シーズンゼロ勝だが）
結構、良いシーズンだったと思っている。メジャーで優勝争いできたし、マスターズもそうですし全英でも良いプレーができが。ただ、Ｐ．ハリントン選手が非常に良いプレーをしたため残念ながら負けてしまいましたが、自分としては良い収穫がたくさんあったと思う。あとはライダーカップでも非常に良いプレーができて欧州チームに貢献できました。その意味では去年よりも内容の濃かった良いシーズンだったと思います。ただ、自分としても学んでいくことはいろいろとありますので、さらに上をみて上達していこうと思う。

彼は昨年はアマチュアとして、今年はプロとして、すでに活躍を見せている。プロになって練習もたくさん積んできただろうし、本人も勝ちたい意識を非常に強く持っているようですし、優勝もできたということもあって良いムードで入ってきていると思います。素晴らしいことだと思います。それに彼は若いですからこれからもっといろんなことを学んで、いろんなショットを覚えて、例えばゴルフは単に３２０ｙを飛ばせたらよいということだけでもない。いろんなショットを覚えて学び、素晴らしい選手になっていって欲しいです。
（マスターズのホールインワン）
今週もあのときのようなスーパープレーがでたらいいですね。
マスターズでホールインワンは本当に素晴らしいこと。友人やいろんな方々の前でカップにボールが吸い込まれる瞬間が見れた。特にオーガスタの１６番ですから何ものにも代えがたい。
（日本の女子プロゴルファー）
昨日は３人の女子プロとのラウンドでしたが、非常にうまくて曲がらないということで素晴らしいゴルファーだと思いました。たまには女性とまわるというのも楽しいですし、日本の女性はとても魅力的だとも思います。
（若いときの１０年の大切なものは？）
自分は石川選手とはプロへの入り方が違ったのですが、最初はアシスタントプロを４年、ショップで働いていました。石川選手は１７歳で最初からプロとして出ていますのでかなり違う。僕はトーナメントに出られるようになるまでにさらに９年くらいかかっていますので。学ぶこと、トーナメントに出るということはいろんな経験をしていろんなコース、芝、状況でプレーをしなければならないということで、やはりたくさんの種類のショットを覚えていくのは大切。そして学び続けることによってその瞬間瞬間に必要なショットを必ず打てるようになるということを若いうちに学んでおくことが必要ではないか。
（寒いのは嫌い？）
嫌いです。
暑い方がいい。動きやすいですしボールも飛ぶ。寒いと服をたくさん着ることになるし、手もかじかむ。ボールも飛ばない。でもまぁ、どんな状況があってもトーナメントに出る以上は勝たなければならないですが。
（ドライバーの盗難？）
ＨＩＰＣに出場した土曜日、１６時半にホールアウトし、次のマッチまで２０分あった。そこで１度あがって、プレーヤーズラウンジの外に一瞬キャディバックを置いて中に入って、ものの５分くらいだったと思うが出てきてみたらなかった。監視カメラの映像で確認したら見知らぬ誰かがバックを持って写真かなにかをとった後にそのままいなくなってしまった。結局、犯人は見つからず、クラブも出てこなかった。それでとりあえず、シンガポールから新しいアイアンを４本送らせることにしましたが、次の週の木曜日にならないと届かないということに。結局、ドライバーがなければプレーもままならないということで先週の試合を棄権して日本に来た。そして宮崎に入ってドライバーのテストをしなければと思っていて、会場のクラブハウスに入ったら、去年の優勝者の展示物として昨年自分がサインして寄贈したサインの入ったキャディバックやドライバーなどがあった。これだ！と、思って、そのドライバーを出してもらって打ってみるとこれがパーフェクト。準備万端です。
実際に昨年使用していたものではないが、同じものです。サイン？サインはふき取りました。
ドライバー選択には完璧なこだわりがある。次に使うクラブを決めるために２０本くらいは試す。

先週はとにかく大満足。もう（テンションを）あげていかなくてもいいのかなぁなんて。（笑）
本当に今はもう何も残っていないような・・・。（笑）
（コースの印象）
相変わらず難しいなぁという印象。難しいと思う。今日の感じだとあまりどうするということは浮かばない。明日になればもう少し・・・。とにかく、本当に何だか満足しているって言いますか、気持ちとしてはとにかく静かに大人しく・・。
（クラブのセッティング）
先週と何も変わらないです。こんなに変わらないのも珍しい・・。パターのグリップも変わらない。よく入るんですよ。（笑）
（相手がバーディだろうが、ボギーだろうがまるで気になっていないようにプレーしているように見えるが）
意識はしていますよ。ただ、昨年から心理学を取り入れていることが役立っている。
（先週、今野がパットをしているときに目を閉じて集中しているように見えましたが）
彼によって僕の状況が変わるのは良くないことだと思いましたし、左右されないようにしていた。
今回はあまり「グアッ」とやるのはどうかなと。先週もジャパンオープンも「勝つ！」と思ってやった。ただ、それだともたない。今週はあまりそう思うことなく自然にやって、気がついたら１０位、６位、あれ最終組？という感じでいけたらいいなと思う。
現在、技術的な不安はない。そうした風に不安がなくてここに来ることもそんなにないので。逆にそれはそれで楽しみ。あんまり、今回は口に出して言うほどではないので、大人しくやろうかと。

アゲンストの風…ドライバーで打って左に行った。もうちょっと右を狙っていきたい。
（スイングのテーマ）
一番良かったのは、日本オープンのときだったのですけど、それに比べてバランスがバラバラ。まずあのときに戻して、それからもっとよくしていって、それで終われたら最高。
球を打ちながら体を温めていくのはいやで、体が熱い状態で練習を始めたい。
日本オープンからフィットネスに行き始めた。バイクに10分、腹筋のトレーニングをして、汗をかいてから球を打つようにしている。この間フィットネスに行かないで、いきなり練習を始めたら、体が全然動かなくてビックリした。
あと3試合で一番バーディがとれないコースだと思うので、そこでいかにバーディを獲れるか…1日4つ獲れたら満足。4日間で12個いったらいい。
ＮＯ．７がパー５になったのは、回るほうとしてはありがたい。でもティショットがちょうど２つのバンカーの間に落ちるようになるので難しい。
（最年少の１億円突破、賞金ランキング、もう１勝といろいろ目標はあると思いますが？）
その３つは違うようで全部同じだと思いますので、１勝すれば…勝てることを考えていきます。

昨年の経験を活かし優勝を狙う
去年はパッティングの調子が悪く，優勝争いに加わることができなかったが、このコースは大好きだし、今年は良いプレーができるように頑張りたい。特にスリクソン契約選手としてこの大会はとても大切な試合。日本の皆さんの前で是非良いゴルフをお見せしたい。
コース攻略の鍵はフェアウェイキープとピンの手前につけること。ここのグリーンは見た目以上に傾斜がきついので常に上りのラインにつけないとチャンスをつかめない。
ここ数ヶ月間調子が悪かったが、先週の上海でまずますのプレーができたので、状態は上向き。ポールターやエルスをはじめ、強豪が揃っているが、この良い流れでシーズンを締めくくりたい。
去年良い成績だっただけに、去年以上を狙うとなると優勝しかないわけですが、まずはこのフェニックスに戻ってこられたことをとても嬉しく思っています。トップ10に入ることを目標に頑張りたい。そして気が早いが来年も戻ってこられるようにしたい。今シーズンを締めくくるトーナメントなので良い形で終らせられるよう最善を尽くします。
飛距離を武器にフェニックスを攻略
久しぶりの日本だけど、日本人はとても礼儀正しく、皆さんとても優しい人達ばかり。また来られて良かったし、今週はとても楽しんでいる。
招待選手として出場させてもらっているので、是非良いプレーをして勝ちたい。賞金額もビッグだからね。
昨日よりラフが伸びて難しくなってきているし、グリーンも速くなっているから、勝つためにはフェアウェイをキープする事と、グリーンをしっかり読む事が鍵になると思います。
グリーンもフェアウェイもよく整備されていて素晴らしいと思う。今日はアイアンショットが少しぶれていたので、これから練習場に行って調整をします。
ラフは昨年に比べるとクラブに絡まりにくくなっていた。またフェアウェイの状態は昨年同様素晴らしく打ちやすかった。
7番ホールがパー４からパー５に変更になったから、バーディと獲れるチャンスが増えた。だから期間中はバーディを狙っていきたい。今年はとても寒くて風も強いのでクラブ選択に注意しないと、良いスコアを出すのは難しいと思います。今年もまたダンロップフェニックスに戻って来られて嬉しく思っている。沢山のギャラリーに来てもらいたいし、素晴らしいプレーを見てもらえるようにベストを尽くします。
初出場組が上位進出を狙う！
今のところは凄く楽しんでいます。コースは綺麗だし、日本の人達はとても優しくて素晴らしい人達ばかり。勝つことがもちろん目標だけど、良いプレーをして、とても良い試合をしたい。このコースとは相性がいいみたいだからチャンスはある。
シーズン中は調子が上がらなかったけど、USPGAツアーで優勝することができたので「自分は勝てる」という自信を強く持つことができています。
日本でプレーすること自体初めてですが、以前から日本のゴルフコースは状態が良く、素晴らしいトーナメントが運営されていると聞いていました。また人や気候が良いと聞いていたので来ることを非常に楽しみにしていました。
来日して数日、時差の関係で少し疲れてはいますが、美味しい宮崎牛を堪能しているおかげで、今日のプロアマは、今まで経験したプロアマの中で一番と言っていいほど楽しくプレーできました。
出場選手の数が少ないこの大会、余裕を持ってプレーできると思うので、その中でベストを尽くして、是非上位に食い込みたいと思います。
